Intended use | The measurement of haptoglobin is used for diagnosis and follow-up of inflammatory diseases. Although haptoglobin is not disease-specific, the detection of an increased haptoglobin level provides a valuable indication of the presence of inflammatory processes. Haptoglobin, an acute phase protein, is part of immune system-mediated defence mechanisms that is found in the blood of a range of animal species. Under normal conditions, haptoglobin is either absent from the blood or present at very low levels.
