In contrary to GH IGFBP-3 shows stable serum levels due to absence of circadian variation. In children IGFBP-3 levels are strongly age and gender dependent. A detailed table is included in the product brochure. |

| Intended use |
IGFBP-3 is a peptide of 264 amino acids (MW 29kDa), forming a complex with a 150 kDa glycoprotein (ALS, acid labile subunit) and one molecule of IGF. In serum, approximately 95% of IGF-I and IGF-II are bound to IGFBP-3, making this protein to the main carrier of the circulating insulin-like growth factor. The function of the binding protein is to prolong the half-life of the circulating growth factor towards several hours. The determination of IGFBP-3 has been proposed as the best indicator of GHD during the five first years of life because of the low discrimination value of IGF-1 levels. A single IGFBP-3 determination is an excellent screening parameter for GHD and IGFBP-3 is a good parameter for monitoring the therapeutic efficacy in both GHD and acromegaly. |
