| Intended use |
Calcitonin, a Polypeptide out of 32 amino acids, is delivered primarily by the C-cells of the thyroid gland. Its main biological effect is the inhibition of the osteoclastic bone reabsorption. On the basis of this characteristic, calcitonin is used in diseases that are marked by an increased resorption, like the Paget\'s syndrome and at some patients with osteoporosis. The determination of calcitonin is mainly used in case of medullar thyroid carcinoma. |
